Armed Forces Day

Honoring Those Who Serve

Today, on Armed Forces Day, we pause as a nation to honor the brave men and women who serve in the military, those who have answered the call to defend freedom, protect the vulnerable, and uphold peace. Their sacrifice, discipline, and courage echo values deeply rooted in Scripture and the Christian faith.

Jesus said in John 15:13,

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Though this verse ultimately points to the sacrificial love of Christ, it also reminds us of the profound selflessness shown by those who serve in the armed forces. Whether on land, sea, or air, they willingly put themselves in harm’s way, not for glory or gain, but out of a deep sense of duty and love for others.

Romans 13:7 reminds us,

“Give to everyone what you owe them… if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”

So today, we give honor where it is due.

In times of conflict and peace alike, our military personnel embody courage, perseverance, and servant-hearted leadership. Their service mirrors Christlike humility, reminding us to stand in gratitude, not just one day a year, but always.

Heavenly Father,
We lift up every man and woman who wears the uniform of our nation’s military. Thank you for their courage, their endurance, and their willingness to serve.

Protect them in times of danger. Strengthen them in moments of weariness. Comfort their families in seasons of separation.

Lord, guide their hearts with integrity and wisdom. Let them know they are not forgotten and that their labor is not in vain. May they feel the peace that surpasses understanding, even amid the storms of war or uncertainty.

We also pray for veterans, those who have served with honor, and for those who carry hidden wounds, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. Be their healer and their hope.

And for our nation, Lord, may we never take freedom for granted. Help us to be peacemakers and people of truth, always remembering the cost of liberty.

In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
